Even though my roots are to be found in many different other places, Groningen is the place I call home. I was born in the Grunobuurt and spent my childhood in the countryside of Groningen, in Niehove—the cutest village of them all. From the age of 12, I went to high school in the city.
After some traveling and little life chapters in Berlin and Leeuwarden, I landed back in Groningen. I was surprised to find an entire alternative landscape here which I never had accessed before!
I studied History at the University of Groningen, but as soon as I got my bachelor’s degree, I was out of there. I didn’t really like my time at uni, and I wanted to go and explore the world first hand.
My home in Oude RKZ was often filled with travelers, back when couchsurfing was still a thing. I always showed them around town, and took them to all the places that made Groningen interesting to me.
So then at some point I started combining showing people around town, with doing research in the archives about the stuff that interested me, and bada bing bada boom:
Alternative Groningen Tour was born in 2015.
